P5 - Proposal for radio trailer

NAME OF FILM: No Escape

TAGLINE OF FILM: “Once you’re in, there’s no escaping”

PRODUCTION NAME: Black Mist Productions

MEDIUM: Radio trailer

FORMAT: Audio

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Boys and girls aged 12+

CONTENT OF THE ADVERT: The radio trailer will include short snippets of audio
from the film – specifically, the conflict  intense
music is playing and you can hear fast paced
breathing to show the character’s in distress.
There will also be stings to add suspense.
The beginning of the trailer will have a short
narrative. The trailer will end with the tagline

PUBLISHING OF THE ADVERT: The trailer will be published online so anyone   can
have access to it. As it is aimed for those aged
12+ this will be a good idea as young people are
more familiar with the way things work online and
                                                                   can easily find it

UNIQUE SELLING POINT: This product is better compared to what is already out
out there because of how we’ve challenged the
conventions of gothic horror and the way we’ve added
a little bit of modernity in our film.

COMPETITIVE MARKET:  Movies which revolve around the theme of a victim
terrorised in a dream and are deceased in real life but unaware of it is our main competitor as there are a few which explores the idea more thoroughly and get more into detail of the background story such as ‘The Sixth Sense”. Films which include this are psychological themed or paranormal. But because our film is gothic-horror we’ve included a character that is a vampire to stick with the supernatural theme which is more common in gothic horror.

P4 - TREATMENT

WORKING TITLE OF FILM:  No Escape

TAGLINE OF FILM: “Once you’re in, there’s no escaping”

PRODUCTION NAME: Black Mist Productions

MEDIUM: Audio-Visual

DURATION OF PRODUCT: 5 minutes

CERTIFICATION: 18

TARGET AUDIENCE: Our target audience is boys and girls aged 12+ who are into and like watching gothic horror films - both modern and old-fashioned.

SYNOPSIS OF FILM: The plot of our film revolves around a teenage girl who falls into a never ending nightmare, trapped with a supernatural being (vampire-llke beast). Our film ends with this girl seen being attacked by this being and supposedly made unconscious. But when she wakes up she is completely alone and isolated in the very same place she has been all along but her surrounding looks completely dull. It’s after this we find out that she is actually still stuck in her nightmare and in real life she is physically dead – the cause, strangulation. The same way her younger brother died exactly a year ago.
MAIN CHARACTERS:  - Hannah:  teenager, the films centres around her,
victim
- Villain:    a vampire, tries to capture Hannah

KEY SCENES:
KEY SCENE 1: A medium long shot of the kitchen and Hannah sitting at the table in the kitchen where she is doing her work on the laptop. The shot dissolves into a 2nd shot where she tired. This then dissolves into the 3rd shot where she is now asleep still at the table. The camera moves into an extreme close up of Hannah waking up (specifically, a shot of her eye). The next shot is a medium shot of Hannah looking around the room as the atmosphere is suddenly tense and everything looks dull.

KEY SCENCE 2: There is a long shot of an open door and the room completely pitch black. Hannah creeps past it and as soon as she is out of the shot, a pair of red, luminous eyes shows in the dark at head level.

KEY SCENE 3: A tracking shot at ground level shows a woman walking on grass for a short moment until she stops. The camera pans up to an over the shoulder shot at a high angle when the woman is kneeling down. She slowly gets up and walks away and that is when a gravestone is revealed in Hannah’s name from a medium close up. From then the shot fades out to black.

KEY SCENE 4: After Hannah finds the card which reads inside, “may Hannah rest in peace”, she frantically cries and starts screaming. The shot transitions into a very long shot of her inside her kitchen crying and screaming. The camera then slowly pans down to the floor at a high angle with a close up of her locket on the floor. The camera zooms in then fades to black.

Reflection on today's lesson: Classification

In todays lesson we've gone more into depth about the BBFC and film classification. I've learnt that as society progresses, the certification may change in the future. For example, a film that would've perhaps been rated 18 in the 1980's would be classified as 15 today because of society changing and becoming more acceptable of what would've been highly controversial subjects.

I've learnt that in films, it's all about the sound. For example, 5 seconds of sound was removed from one of the Harry Potter films to class it as a 12A. This is because sound impacts children as they are more vulnerable and easily scared.

For my film, it was rated a 12 but now has been bumped up to a 15 because of the aesthetic appeal of the villain. I've considered how a child aged 12 would be impacted by an image like the villain in my film so chances are they might be mentally disturbed.

The lack of concepts and the details however made me class my film as 12 before because of the only two concepts that's included, which are language and threat. In language there are perhaps only a couple of swear words which would've been mentioned but only out of fear rather than to intimidate someone or out of anger. With threat there is the villain that chases the girl with no knowledge of why she's being chased.

To have classed my film as a 15 i thought there would have be obscure language which most definitely would be offensive. Also, strong violent acts which could include bloodshed and sadistic violence.

Today's lesson has made me think about the content of my film. What i personally wouldn't find scary may actually impact a younger audience.

P3 - PITCH

Since presenting the pitch I've improved upon some ideas and added a few in. For example, I've researched into more camera shots and I've included one which was unheard of, which is the 'dutch tilt'. In addition, pitch helped me explore into more ideas which I wasn't aware of before, such as 'recurring symbol' which was added in.
